Tool to Hit the Road this Summer, New Album Underway

It's hard to believe, but it's been almost four years since Tool released 10,000 Days, but Maynard and company are ready to hit the road. They are also in the beginning stages of writing their next record. Below are the first set of Tool dates to be released.
"Members of the band are still in the process of writing new material (three days a week)… it shouldn’t be long before the dry-erase board is filled with a bewildering array of color-coded intros, progressions, agitatos, con sordinos, crescendos, diatonics, inversions, resolutions, transitions, variations, obbligatos, consonance, and endings – the arrangements that millions will attempt to down-load [sic] off the internet.”
Tool 2010 Tour Dates

Jun. 19 @ UNO Lakefront Arena - New Orleans, LA

Jun. 20 @ Toyota Center - Houston, TX

Jun. 23 @ Ford Center - Oklahoma City, OK

Jul. 7 @ Rexall Place - Edmonton, AB

Jul. 9 @ General Motors Place - Vancouver, BC

Monday Morning Coffee Break

I had a great extended weekend. I must say that I wasn't that impressed with my trip to Hot Doug's. We waited about an hour in line and left a little disappointed, but I will give it another chance sometime. On the other hand, I enjoyed Great Lake Pizza much more. We arrived a little before five and there was already a line. The place is really really small and has room for 10 people. We ordered two of the three pizzas that they make. It was definitely on the expensive side, but I would back for sure.

I also made my first trip to Half Acre Brewing where I picked up a four pack (16oz cans) of their Gossamer Golden Ale. I am not a big fan of golden ales, but this beer is very refreshing and tastes great. It's back to the grind, but another short week awaits me. I hope everyone had a great weekend
and happy Monday!

Sounds delicious and you can throw in some duck fat fries! Head over to the New York Times website and you can hear their new album High Violet streaming in it's entirety. Alice in Chains, Mastodon & Deftones to Tour Together this Fall

If you don't wear ear plugs to shows and want to check out this triple bill then you might want to pick up a pair. Alice in Chains, Mastodon & Deftones will bring the "BlackDiamondSkye" tour to a city near you this fall. I wouldn't mind Jerry Cantrell sitting in with Mastodon and shredding it with Brent Hinds & Bill Kelliher. No dates have been announced, but a website has been launched.

Monday Morning Coffee Break

It was a pretty uneventful weekend for me all around. Wanee Festival and Coachella kicked off the festival season this weekend. I read a tweet last night that said that Phoenix had a bigger crowd than Pavement, which is interesting, but I am still pumped to see Pavement at Pitchfork this year. I hope everyone had a great weekend and here is some news and a video to get your Monday moving.

Download the new Blur song "Fool's Day"

Damn Albarn might be busy with his animated band Gorillaz, but Blur will always have a place in his heart. Blur hasn't released any music since 2003's Think Tank until today. The band used Record Store Day as a way to show fans that Blur is still alive and kicking. No new album has been announced, but fans can only an album and maybe just maybe a tour is in the works.

Thank Boosh It's Friday!

Last night, Elton John treated fans to set that spanned the prolific song writers entire career. I enjoyed the show, but hoped he would play more off of Tumbleweed Connection. Elton is one hell of a piano player and his music is timeless. If don't own any Elton John records, I suggest you pick up Tumbleweed Connection or Honkey Chateau. Don't forget that Coachella starts tonight and they will be offering a webcast of the weekends festivities. I hope that everyone has a great weekend!

Hump Day Happenings

Coachella, the first big music festival of the season will go down this weekend in Indio, CA. The festival has officially sold out, which isn't surprising considering the lineup is pretty kick-ass! The organizers of both Coachella and Stagecoach took a few tips from Phish and hope to make their festivals even better. Tomorrow, I am going to see Elton John at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates. It should be a fantastic show. Don't forget that SS&S is on Facebook & Twitter.

Chicago Beer Hoptacular!

Chicago Beer Hoptacular! will invade the Aragon Ballroom from June 4 - 5. I know the Aragon Ballroom is used for boxing matches, dances & concerts, but a beer event? That's what I'm talking about! The list of breweries is impressive and should be a very cool event. Tickets are available now and you can get them here. Cheers!
Beer Hoptacular, a celebration for all true beer enthusiasts, kicks off its first year with beer samplings, demonstrations and fun from craft brewers, beer experts, home brewers, and local artisans. Attendees will enjoy a select variety of more than two hundred small-batch beers, the best of the best from across the Midwest, other regions in the U.S. and abroad. Those in attendance can interact with the brewers themselves and cast their vote to select the “Beer Hoptacular Beer of the Year.” Scheduled for Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5 at Uptown’s Aragon Ballroom, Beer Hoptacular will serve as a gathering place and educational opportunity for a growing number of beer appreciators who see the fermented beverage less as a route to intoxication and more as a timeless artisanal pursuit to be appreciated.

Wilco Brings Solid Sound Festival to North Adams, MA

Wilco have announced their very own music & arts festival set to take this place this summer in North Adams, MA. The festival will take place from August 13 -15. Tickets are available now and props to the band for keeping it very affordable. I wish I could make it, but I will be enjoying Phish at Alpine Valley that weekend.

Where's the love for Chicago?

The SOLID SOUND FESTIVAL is a new festival curated by the Chicago band Wilco. It debuts August 13 – 15 at MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art) in North Adams, MA. SOLID SOUND FESTIVAL at MASS MoCA also plays host to additional musical performances, a fully programmed comedy stage, interactive installations and exhibits (including the Solid Sound Stompbox Station, an interactive guitar pedal exhibit created and demonstrated by Wilco guitarist Nels Cline, a concert-poster screening demonstration, planned workshops by luthiers and more), plus film, video installations and djʼs. Festival attendees will have full access to the entire MASS MoCA campus, which incorporates 150,000 square feet of galleries. Piece & 3 Floyds Collaboration = Marketing Ploy

The Craft Brewers Conference is in full swing here in Chicago, so I thought I would write a little something about beer. Piece Brewery & Pizzeria not only makes really good pizza, but they make damn good beer. The recently released Marketing Ploy is a collaboration between Three Floyds Brewery of Munster, IN and Piece. Three Floyds has really made a name for themselves in recent years and their Alpha King and Pride & Joy are two favorites of mine. Marketing Ploy isn't too hoppy and isn't very bitter. It has great balance and the citrus aroma is very pleasant making it very drinkable. It may just be a marketing ploy, but two great breweries have joined forces to make a really, really good beer.

Happy Opening Day! I am cautiously optimistic for my White Sox this season, but it's a long season so we will see. I had a pretty chill weekend, but I did get out and try a new beer on Friday night. Don't forget that they announce the Lollapalooza lineup tomorrow. Here is some news and a video to get your Monday moving.

Thank Boosh It's Friday!

It's been a pretty hectic last couple days for me. On Wednesday, I scored all ten of the Phish shows I was hoping for this summer! Yesterday, I became a home owner for the first time! I am really excited, so it's going to be a pretty busy month for me. I celebrated by heading to Goose Island where I had a taste of the CBC IPA and tried the delectable Chicago Star IPA. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
