Tonight in Chicago: Experience Hendrix Tour @ The Chicago Theatre

Tonight, I am heading down to the Chicago Theatre to catch the Experience Hendrix Tour. An all-star cast of musicians will celebrate the music and legacy of Jimi Hendrix. The lineup for the show consists of Billy Cox of The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Band Of Gypsys, Joe Satriani, Jonny Lang, Eric Johnson, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Ernie Isley, Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, Doyle Bramhall II, Living Colour, Chris Layton of Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble and Cesar Rosas & David Hidalgo of Los Lobos. It should be one hell of a night. I will be periodically posting updates from the show on my Twitter account.

  1. I was at this show. I went with two of my other friends. It was a great show, and a sold out one at that. Well worth the $60 we paid for our tickets. 3 hours of great music played by terrific artist.

There was also a woman who came out and played. I'm not sure who she was but she had a great voice jammed right along with the others. For the final song, Satriani, Cox, Whitford and a 14 year old boy that I didn't catch his name. The kid was stunning.

Also a band featuring slide guitars, called Sacred Steel. These guys tore it up. This is a must see event. I would make the drive to Milwaukee to see them again, if the show wasn't sold out.

  2. I caught this show in Chicago and was blown away. All the guitarists rocked the house, but in my opinion Kenny Wayne Shepherd stole the show.
Eric Johnson did very well and Satriani rocked as always, especially on Third Rock from the Sun. I especially loved hearing the Miles Davis tune Them Changes. The only thing missing was a horn section on that one, but Billy Cox laid down a mean base line.
Living Colour got the crowd amped up and then Sacred Steel and those slide guitars...OMG!
I was in guitar heaven for three hours! Susan Tedeschi was great and so was the kid at the end (sorry forgot his name) Too many great moments to list them all.

Great venue, great sightlines, but the sound was a bit muddy. Otherwise this show kicks a** and you should see it.
