Phish @ Greek Theatre, Berkeley, CA, 8-5-10

Phish returned to the Greek Theatre for the first time since 1993 to kick off the second leg of their summer tour. The show didn't feature any bustouts or notable covers that we became accustomed to during the first leg, but nonetheless it looks like a classic Phish setlist. Phish will return to the Greek this evening.

Notes: Crimes featured the Dude of Life on vocals. Antelope included Brady Bunch theme teases and a Simpsons signal, while It’s Ice featured Random Note, All Fall Down, and Oom Pa Pa signals. Amazing Grace was performed without microphones. Also, while several versions of YEM have teased Oye Como Va, this version featured an all-out jam of the song. Contact segued out of the YEM vocal jam. During Daniel Saw the Stone, the band introduced and thanked each member of the crew. J.J. Cale was the opening act.

Notes: Don’t You Wanna Go was preceded by a Stairway to Heaven tease. This 50+ minute Tweezer included a brief Gypsy Queen Jam, a 2001 tease, a Slave-like jam, and a Digital Delay Loop Jam with whistling. Simple was performed with an a cappella ending instead of a jam, akin to the ALO version from December 8, 1994. Amazing Grace was performed without microphones.

Your Monday Evening News

Looks like I might be changing my posts around here at Scents & Subtle Sounds, so stay tuned. I had a really good weekend and got to relax a bit. I did make it to Goose Island to try the Sai-Shan-Tea, but wasn't really impressed. They really need to get Fleur back in stock! I am really looking forward to this Friday as I will be heading to South Bend, IN after work to catch Wilco play their last Midwest performance of the year. I hope everyone had a great Monday!

I still don't have internet at my new place, so that is the cause of the lack of posts. I have pretty much settled into my new place (except the internet part) and am really enjoying it. I had a fantastic meal at Nightwood on Saturday and definitely recommend it. Goose Island on Clybourn has some great beers in tap including a collaboration with Paul Kahan of Publican. Thank Boosh It's Friday!

I finally made it to Charlotte and I am about to grab a bite to eat before heading to the show. This morning I made a stop at Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen in Chapel Hill for some biscuits and they did not disappoint. The BBQ yesterday at Bullock's in Durham was excellent as well. I hope everyone has a safe holiday weekend.

I will keep this short, but tonight Phish was once again firing on all cylinders. The tone was set early and the band carried that through the whole show. You MUST listen to "Light Up or Leave Me Alone". It was the song of the night, as it carried so much energy. Other highlights for me included "Backwards Down The Number Line", "Have Mercy", and a rocking "Suzy Greenberg". I need to get some sleep, but I am off to Charlotte in the morning, and can't wait for tomorrow night! Download the show now!

Hump Day Happenings

I am currently sitting in my hotel room in Rochester, NY just about to hit the road for Raleigh, NC. Both of the Phish shows I have seen so far have been very very good, but MPP night two, set two has been the best set so far. I am really pumped for the final four shows of the tour.
