I have been very absent from my blog lately, which I am not happy about, but I have something up my sleeve, so stayed tuned for some news.

This weekend I took in all three days of Lollapalooza and had a killer time. The reason I didn't post anything on my site is because I went on behalf of Live Music Blog. It was my first time covering a festival and it was definitely a very cool experience. With that said, check out my review of day one of Lollapalooza.

Phish returned to the Greek Theatre for the first time since 1993 to kick off the second leg of their summer tour. The show didn't feature any bustouts or notable covers that we became accustomed to during the first leg, but nonetheless it looks like a classic Phish setlist. Phish will return to the Greek this evening.

I had a great weekend and I am "finally" settled in my new place. On Friday, I made the short trek to South Bend to catch Wilco, and they didn't disappoint as usual. On Saturday, I had a really great meal in Chinatown at a restaurant called Hing Kee. Yesterday, I went down to Wicker Park fest and checked out Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. I hadn't seen them before, but it's safe to say the next time they are in Chicago I will be there. I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Simple was performed with an a cappella ending instead of a jam, akin to the ALO version from December 8, 1994. Amazing Grace was performed without microphones.

Last night, Wilco made their final Midwest appearance of the year at Coveleski Field in South Bend, IN. The show, which wasn't very crowded carried a very chill vibe and it felt like Wilco was playing someone's backyard. Jeff Tweedy was particularly chatty and touched a number of subjects including the futility of the Cubs, Glenn Kotche's broken toe, Kings of Leon, and his admittance of him trying zumba. The boys will curate their inaugural Solid Sound Festival in August before heading to Europe in the fall. Wilco will begin recording their new record in October. Weezer To Give 'Pinkerton' Deluxe Treatment

For me, Pinkerton is the essential Weezer album. I know that may sound crazy, but there isn't much to not like about this album. I know it doesn't have the catchy songs that Weezer (The Blue Album) had, but it just straight up rocks.

Anyways, I got very excited when I saw that Pinkerton was going to get re-released with a few extra goodies. Amazon has started a page for the upcoming release, which has an October 5th release date.

BrewDog Take Extreme ABV Brewing To Another Level

I haven't had a chance to open my bottle of Sink the Bismarck (41% ABV), and the folks at BrewDog have once again brewed the world's strongest beer. The End of History is a mind numbing 55% ABV! Yes, 55% ABV! Not only is the beer pretty strong, but it comes presented in a stuffed stoat or grey squirrel! That is ridiculous, but pretty cool at the same time.

This blond Belgian ale is infused with nettles from the Scottish Highlands and Fresh juniper berries. Only 12 bottles have been made and each comes with its own certificate and is presented in a stuffed stoat or grey squirrel. The striking packaging was created by a very talented taxidermist and all the animals used were road kill. This release is a limited run of 11 bottles, 7 stoats and 4 grey squirrels. Each ones comes with its own certificate of authenticity.

I still don't have internet at my new place, so that is the cause of the lack of posts. I have pretty much settled into my new place (except the internet part) and am really enjoying it. I had a fantastic meal at Nightwood on Saturday and definitely recommend it. Goose Island on Clybourn has some great beers in tap including a collaboration with Paul Kahan of Publican. Panic In Chicago This Weekend

For the last five years, Widespread Panic has made the Chicago Theatre their home in Chicago. Starting tomorrow, the band will take to the historic Chicago venue for three shows. Tickets are available for the first two nights, but the Saturday show is sold out.

Saturday afternoon before the show, you can catch JB throwing out the first pitch at the Chicago Cubs vs. Philadelphia Phillies baseball game at Wrigley Field! Game starts at 12:05pm CT.

Wilco Leaves Nonesuch..... Wilco (The Label) On Tap?

It appears that Wilco is joining the growing number of bands/musicians who are either starting their own label or finding new ways to release new music. I am really excited to hear what Jeff Tweedy and company has up their sleeves. Stay tuned!

In an interview with D.C. website Express Night Out, Wilco guitarist Nels Cline mentioned that Wilco’s new album would be on their own record label. “I don’t know the name of it,” Cline told Express Night Out. “Jeff was basically not wanting to be on a record label for a while—he didn’t renew his contract with Nonesuch—so we’re striking out on our own, our own label. There might be a 7-inch or something, a little souvenir when we do this Mass MoCA [Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, Ma.] I’m not sure, really. Basically, Jeff and [Wilco manager] Tony Margherita are the masterminds, so I’m just cruising with what they want to do.”

I finally made it to Charlotte and I am about to grab a bite to eat before heading to the show. This morning I made a stop at Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen in Chapel Hill for some biscuits and they did not disappoint. The BBQ yesterday at Bullock's in Durham was excellent as well. I will keep this short, but tonight Phish was once again firing on all cylinders. The tone was set early and the band carried that through the whole show. You MUST listen to "Light Up or Leave Me Alone". It was the song of the night, as it carried so much energy. Other highlights for me included "Backwards Down The Number Line", "Have Mercy", and a rocking "Suzy Greenberg". With a little less than a month left, Pitchfork Music Festival is just about completely sold out. The three-day passes were scooped up in record time, and all that remain are single-day passes for Friday, which can be bought here. I actually just sold my three-day pass as I have decided that I don't want to deal with the crowd this year. I have elected to catch Pavement at Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park in September.

I had a pretty chill weekend, but managed to catch MGMT at The Riv this weekend. I enjoyed the show, but the owners of the Riv need to find a way to cool that place down. It was hot as shit! I must say that the crowd was really annoying. They stood for the older stuff and sat for the new material for the most part. I love it that they played "Siberian Breaks", the 12 minute opus from Congratulations. You can check out the reviews from the Chicago Tribune & Sun Times. Beer Hoptacular! Beer Of The Year

The first ever Beer Hoptacular! was a resounding success. Each attendee was given a tasting glass with a ballot inside to vote for their favorite beer of the event. You can check out my top five beers.

The votes have been counted and the Dirty Summer Blonde Chocolate from Roundhouse in Aurora, IL took the prize. New Holland Breweries Dragon's Milk Ale took second place.

Phish is simply on fire. Not only have the jams been great, but the band is doing a great job of crafting magnificent sets. We are only four shows into the tour and they have debuted covers by The Band, John Lennon & Tom Waits. We also have heard a new Mike song called "Idea" and the debut of "Show of Life". I will also add that I love Mike's bass playing so far. I am pumped for my first show, which will be the second night at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

Mt. Desolation is truly an interesting hodgepodge of musicians. The band is comprised of members of The Killers, Keane, The Long Winters, Mumford & Sons & Noah and the Whale. I am very excited to hear what the sum of this experiment sounds like. The band has released their first studio recording called "State of Our Affairs". My Morning Jacket Announce Epic Run Of NYC Shows

New York City's Terminal 5 will be presenting a historic five night run of shows in which My Morning Jacket will perform one of their full-length albums in its entirety each night, along with additional songs and covers from each album's time period. The stint will kick off on Monday, October 18th, with a performance of the 1999 debut The Tennessee Fire, and will be followed chronologically by their next four full length albums, ending with 2008's Evil Urges. on Saturday, October 23rd.

Tickets for the shows go on pre-sale on June 14th, with 5-show ticket packages available to fans. The individual shows will go on sale to the public on Friday, June 18th. For ticket and show information, click here.

It's been a while, but Rose Hill Drive has announced a new member and two shows in their home state of Colorado. I can't wait to not only hear their new material, but see them live again. After 17 months of downtime, except for one gig opening for Jane’s Addiction on New Year’s Eve 2009, Rose Hill Drive is coming out of hibernation to debut the addition of a new member, bass player Jimmy Stofer, and rehearse brand-new new material. It's all about game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final tonight in Philly! I will be heading to Goose Island to watch the game and enjoy some good beer. Phish launched a new website a few days ahead of their summer tour kickoff in lovely Bridgeview, IL. I won't be at Toyota Park, but my summer tour will kick off at CMAC in Canandaigua, NY on June 29. The members of Wilco are not known for their athletic prowess, although drummer Glenn Kotche and guitar wiz Nels Cline each get substantial workouts during Wilco shows. The band is sponsoring little league teams in their hometown of Chicago and in Northampton, MA. Check out the info below.

Wilco's Jeffy Tweedy has referenced his physicality before in self-deprecating fashion (saying in “Kicking Television” that he’s “working on his abs”), but a news update on the group’s website indicates that the band is more likely to hitting groundballs than doing sit-ups. That’s because Wilco is sponsoring not one, but two little league baseball teams in Chicago and Northampton, Mass., respectively. The Chicago team, the Royals, plays in the Warren Park Youth Baseball League, while the Mass. team is in the Northampton Little League, Junior Division. This seems like a natural place to make a joke about whether the teams will shift lineups as much as Wilco has, but who would do such a thing?

I will admit at first listen, I wasn't sold on The National's High Violet, but then again it took me a few listens on both Alligator & Boxer. After I played the album the second and third time through, the light bulb went off. High Violet is a stunning masterpiece and if you don't own it you should pick it up ASAP! Today, the band announced their Fall US tour. I am excited that the band is playing Lollapalooza, but this band is clearly made for theaters and smaller venues. I am hoping that they announce a Lolla aftershow. These shows are bound to sell out so make sure you computer clock is set!

The first show that I saw was Stone Temple Pilots at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago on the Purple tour. I still have vivid memories of Dean DeLeo getting feedback on his guitar as the band opened with "Vasoline". I will never forget it! I have always enjoyed STP, and they were my favorite band as a teenager. Purple and Tiny Music are their best records by far and the aforementioned Purple was one of the best rock records of the 90's. The band recently released their first new album in nearly ten years and it's a gem. They will hit the road this August with more dates to be announced.

The energy was great and we saw one hell of a game. Last night, I caught the Chicago Fire vs. AC Milan at Toyota Park. The game wasn't very exciting, but I was surprised to see that Lagunitas has some beer stands at Toyota Park! Crack a beer and enjoy some light reading and a video.

Mastodon has been forced to cancel their summer European tour due to a illness in the band. The band will return to the stage on September 16 in Chicago for the opening night of BLACKDIAMONDSKYE, which features Alice in Chains, Deftones & Mastodon. The band issued the following statement regarding the cancellation of their European tour.

MASTODON regret to inform their fans that their upcoming Summer tour of Europe originally set to begin June 5, in Germany and ending July 3, in Finland has been cancelled. Guitarist Bill Kelliher who has been diagnosed with Pancreatitis has been advised by doctors to continue further medical treatment. Bill’s medical team are optimistic and expect a full recovery in the weeks ahead as the band looks forward to being part of BlackDiamondSkye also featuring Alice In Chains, Deftones, slated to begin Sep. 16, in Chicago.

Led Zeppelin to Replace U2 at Glastonbury?

Just hours after U2 canceled their appearance at Glastonbury, Michael Eavis might and I stress might have a really big replacement. Jimmy Page has stirred the pot by saying that he wouldn't rule out Led Zeppelin replacing U2 at next months festival. Stay tuned for more on this. I would say this is highly unlikely, but you never know.
